LEGO Kingdoms King’s Castle 7946

Although this initially had me perplexed, as I began construction it became clear why this was the case. Unlike the castles of yore, which were one piece and provided limited axis to the inside of the castle, this Castle is actually a collection of modular components, the main gate is one, the towers are each one, etc. The components are each build on their own bases and connected via lego sockets. There are several advantages to this structure. The first being that you can easily open up a part of the castle to hold a battle inside or to use the inner workings of the castle in some other way. You can also arrange the castle in various configurations as long as you line up the connectors, providing for more versatile play. The downside of this is that you can’t really move the whole structure without disconnecting it and putting it back together every time. Moreover, as the base pieces are a more specialized (specific) size, the options for freeform building are more limited. I have tabulated the rest of my pro/con feelings below.

My son got this set for Christmas, and I built it for him. I’ve built many of the bigger sets (Republic Gunship, Power Miners Titanium Command Rig, Dwarves Mine, etc.). For the amount of pieces in this set, it was one of the easier ones to build. What I really like about this one is the fact that each section of the castle is it’s own piece of the castle. So if you have tons of legos like my son does, it’s possible to build even more sections to make your castle bigger.

IT IS A COOL TOY I REALLY WANT IT FOR CHRISTMAS I WILL TRADE A MILLION THINGS FOR THAT TOY SO COOL YOU GOT TO HAVE THIS TOY!

We received this amazing lego set in our home and within minutes three of my four children (including one 16 year old) gathered around the table and spent more than the next hour assembling this glorious castle. The fourth child was at work and, even though she is 18, I’m sure she would have jumped right in too if she were there. Before long a great castle with a moving moat bridge and several towers was assembled. Included with the kit are several lego characters so the younger children can enjoy fantasy play. I can certainly see this kit bring hours of enjoyment to my children and possibly my grandchildren. We’ll have to see if the parts can be maintained for that long ;)

As a childless woman in her 40′s, my days of playing with LEGOs are nearly a decade behind me. Now it’s time to share the fun with a new generation. I got the Kingdoms LEGO set for my nephew, Joshua. OMG, I hope he lets me build this with him! (It’s taking all of my willpower not to dive in on my own.) In my day (AKA “the Dark Ages”), LEGOs were squares and rectangles in primary colors. It was all about imagination and creativity. This is much cooler! I can’t get over how completely adorable this set is, with moving parts, weapons, flaming sconces, architectural elements, hidden treasures, and, yes–a LEGO mouse. Irresistible! On to more practical matters: This set has 933 parts, which is, like, a lot. That said, even within the generously-sized box, they take up surprisingly little space. Inside the box are eight numbered bags of pieces. Within each bag are specific parts. The very smallest of the pieces are in bags within the bags. Everything is, necessarily, painstakingly organized. Additionally, there are a total of three instruction booklets, each covering specific portions of the project.
