Really enjoyed building this kit with my son. He enjoyed it too. We’ve built most of the Lego Star Wars models under $100 and this was probably the best one yet; great looks, fun to build and great Lego figures included. A winner!

Firstly, this is sold on LEGO.com for $60, so save yourself the $13 and buy from there (I did not). Regardless of that, this was still a great purchase. The way the wings operate and “extend” out all at the same time with the turn of a wheel system is just plain awesome. Some LEGOs tend to fall apart pretty easily, but with this it is quite sturdy and well put together. I recommend this to anyone that loves both Star Wars and LEGOs.
One of the most classic and recognizable ships in the Star Wars Universe, the X-Wing Fighter is also one of the finest sets in the Lego Star Wars line. Back in production after a lengthy absence, this version of the X-Wing Fighter comes with six minifigures, including Luke Skywalker (in X-Wing gear and with a blue lightsaber), R2-D2, Chewbacca, Han Solo (in Hoth gear but minus the hood), Princess Leia (in Hoth gear but with an ANH hairstyle), and Wedge Antilles. The X-Wing can be configured as either Luke’s “Red 5″ ship or Wedge’s “Red 3,” which is a neat touch. Complexity – The set includes 437 pieces, and is a fairly complex set to build. It didn’t help that unlike most newer sets the bags of pieces were not numbered for modular assembly. It took roughly two hours to build this set, and along the way I developed a real appreciation for the engineering and design Lego puts into these sets. The operation of the wings (S-Foils if you’re a Star Wars geek) as well as the way the front section comes together is absolutely brilliant.
Star Wars is SciFi at its best. Not only creativity for thinking about outer space but also an adventure in problem-solving a hands-on experience is this toy. Have fun.
What a great X-Wing model from Lego. Very nice design. Looks good at all angles. Fun to play with, a sturdy model and of course, the wings open to the X-Wing attack position! PRO’s – Design, opening hatch for cockpit, compartment for R2-D2, front retractable landing gear, alternate wing details to identify either Luke Skywalker or Wedge Antilles, hatch/compartment underneath to hold a lightsaber and any other hand weapon (I’d say you could hold 2-3 guns w/the lightsaber), hatch to the rear that opens to see a moving gear when you open and close the X-Wings…and finally the best ‘pro’ on this set…a wheel/gear in the back that cleaverly opens and closes the wings. Looks great in the X-Wing position. Also you get 5 mini-figures(Luke, Wedge, Leia, Han and Chewbacca). CON’s – Not much, but it would’ve been nice to have guns for all the mini-figures. Only weapon is Luke’s lightsaber. Also, there are 4 small lights to the front of wings. They can fall off. Wish it had a tighter bond, but all the con’s are small quibbles.
My son loves this toy. He has made numerous machines and scenes of his own imagination. I think he likes all of the character figures the best.
