My greandson played with one of these at school and wanted one. It is a great toy. He can redesign it from what the directions show to please himself. He loves that. Money well spent! I can always find great buys from Amazon.com. I order all his Legos and just about everything I buy from them. They have great prices and I do not have to pay shipping. I Love Amazon.com! Read more »

Star Wars X-Wing Starfighter 6212
Really enjoyed building this kit with my son. He enjoyed it too. We’ve built most of the Lego Star Wars models under $100 and this was probably the best one yet; great looks, fun to build and great Lego figures included. A winner! Read more »
LEGO Kingdoms King’s Castle 7946
Although this initially had me perplexed, as I began construction it became clear why this was the case. Unlike the castles of yore, which were one piece and provided limited axis to the inside of the castle, this Castle is actually a collection of modular components, the main gate is one, the towers are each one, etc. The components are each build on their own bases and connected via lego sockets. There are several advantages to this structure. The first being that you can easily open up a part of the castle to hold a battle inside or to use the inner workings of the castle in some other way. You can also arrange the castle in various configurations as long as you line up the connectors, providing for more versatile play. The downside of this is that you can’t really move the whole structure without disconnecting it and putting it back together every time. Moreover, as the base pieces are a more specialized (specific) size, the options for freeform building are more limited. I have tabulated the rest of my pro/con feelings below. Read more »

LEGO Harry Potter Diagon Alley 10217
My mom said you can never go wrong with Lego and as parent I agree! We purchased this for my daughters birthday and quite frankly were amazed at the detail, quality and value of this set! Now do not get me wrong – there is work involved in this, lots of it! But I like the fact that it is a great project, is great for a team effort, keeps the kids engaged and everyone knows that hard work will be worth the end result! As for that end result – well you get three amazing and intricate buildings that allow kids to let their imaginations run wild as they play out the Harry Potter scenes: Gringott’s Bank – this can be used two ways, as a small building or you can actually open the building up to both show the detail and allow more playability for kids. Then we have Borgin and Burke’s – the fun here is the glow in the dark feature, which our kids really loved especially as my daughter kept this set up in her room. The finally, in terms of buildings there is Ollivander’s where there is even the effect of an explosion to be had! Trust me, lego spared neither attention to detail or the extra effects on this one! For me, I was also happy that this set included lots of mini figures, 11 to be exact, which was great as the lack of figures has maybe been the only downfall in some of the other sets from this series! The instructions were comprehensive and easy to follow though the construction was somewhat challenging at times. Read more »
LEGO Toy Story Army Men on Patrol (7595)
Most of us LEGO fans have always dreamed of creating an army of little green men, and after years of wishful pondering, it’s finally possible! As depicted in the Amazon stock photo, this set comes with 4 minifgs (3 soldiers and 1 medic). The medic is identical in every way to the others with the exception of a cross printed on his helmet. Accessories consist of: 2 radios, 2 binoculars, 2 rifles, 1 backpack, 1 briefcase (opens), 1 mine detector, 4 base plates, and 1 stretcher. The vehicle itself is well built and compact, and as such, can withstand much play without disassembling — perfect for your young LEGO enthusiasts! Read more »
LEGO Toy Story Western Train Chase (7597)
Once that was figured out, all was well. During construction, I began to notice that the fit and finish of the parts was extremely well done. After final construction, I was amazed that I could run my fingernail across the length of one of the railroad cars and it felt like one solid piece! That’s got to be some manufacturing feat. Along with the fit and finish, the cars and characters are fully functional. For example, the two doors on the caboose actually opened and closed, the wheels turn very easily but were not wobbly at all, the cars interlocked well. The detail in the painted parts, especially the characters, was very well done. You can actually see the iris of the eyes, and we’re talking about a less than two inch high character. The only warning is that besides the actual characters, the finished cars are somewhat fragile in the sense that they will come apart slightly if handled anything more than average. A rough handling or a drop of more than 8 inches (on tile) results in the cars coming apart in large chunks – which I suppose is better than every piece coming apart. Read more »
LEGO City Corner (7641)
My children really loved this set. It was a needed addition to their “start-up” Lego city. The street corner is a great focal point and the bus was a wonderful component to “liven up” their little neighborhood. It was VERY entertaining for them, giving both the older and younger children hours of quiet playtime. If you can only buy a few items to enhance a basic Lego set, this is a must-have! Read more »
LEGO Star Wars Darth Vader’s TIE Fighter (8017)
This set is a great recreation of the ship seen in the original Star Wars movie (A New Hope). It features a workable cockpit hatch, firing missiles, and fold-able wings. The Darth Vader figure included is also spot-on with a removable mask and lightsaber. He sits well in the cockpit. Very nice! A word of caution, though, in that some have complained that the wings separate too easily. Nevertheless, I think this is a good opportunity to teach children to handle their toys with proper care. Plus, it gives them patience! Read more »
